Powers Landing Beach

Wellfleet, Massachusetts · Wellfleet Harbor

Wellfleet's tiny back-harbor landing-style beach

A tiny bay-side landing that barely registers as a beach, but locals love its quiet seclusion. Minimal parking keeps it almost private feeling.

Powers Landing is a tiny Wellfleet bay-side landing on the inner harbor — eight or ten parking spots, a low dune line, and a strip of pale sand that's more landing than beach. It's the kind of place you find by following a Wellfleet local from a dinner party and being told not to tell anyone. The water is warm inner-harbor water with a long tidal flat at low tide; at high tide it's a perfectly serviceable swim hole. There's nothing here — no bathhouse, no lifeguard, no concession — just sand, water, and quiet. The oyster flats are right offshore and you can watch the farmers working at low tide. It's not anyone's destination beach, but as a five-o'clock swim before dinner at the Wellfleet Oyster House or PB Boulangerie, it's hard to beat.
