Nantucket's forgotten south-shore beach — long walks, no crowds
A long, wide south shore beach that's less discovered than Surfside or Cisco. Great for long walks. The adjacent Miacomet Golf Club means the area stays undeveloped.
Miacomet is the south-shore beach that everyone forgets about, which is precisely what makes it good. It sits between Surfside to the east and Cisco to the west, with a small free lot at the end of Miacomet Road and no facilities to speak of. The adjacent Miacomet Golf Club keeps the back side undeveloped; you walk a short sand path through scrub and grass and end up on a wide, empty stretch of south-shore beach that goes for miles in both directions. The waves are similar to Cisco's — south-facing beach break, occasional shoulder-high swells, real rip currents at the wrong tide. Bring everything; this is a take-a-walk beach more than a hang-out beach.
