Wellfleet's close-to-town inner-harbor beach
A calm bay beach on the inner harbor side of Wellfleet. Warm water, easy swimming, and good sunset views. A favorite for Wellfleet families who want bay-side calm without the drive to Duck Harbor.
Indian Neck is the close-to-town bay beach of Wellfleet — a wide curve of sand on the inner harbor side of the Wellfleet peninsula, ten minutes from Main Street, with a small Wellfleet-sticker lot and a no-frills bathhouse. The water is the warmest of any Wellfleet beach because the inner harbor traps the sun-warmed surface water, and the swimming is easy and shallow at high tide with a long tidal flat at low. The Indian Neck Marsh behind the beach is a working oyster-farming ground — the famous Wellfleet oysters come largely from these flats — and at low tide you can watch the oyster farmers working their racks just offshore. The sunset is the standard Wellfleet bay-side show, with the sky going pink over the marsh and the Truro shore beyond. It's not a flashy beach; it's a working-town beach, the kind that locals come to for an after-work swim before heading to the Oyster House for dinner.
