Yarmouth, Massachusetts · Lewis Bay
A Lewis Bay boat-watcher's secret
A mid-sized beach overlooking the entrance to Hyannis Marina. Not much foot traffic — just a relaxing spot to watch boats pass and enjoy calm water. A local favorite for quiet mornings.
Bayview Street is one of those Yarmouth landings that's hard to find on purpose. Off a residential cul-de-sac in West Yarmouth, the small gravel lot fits maybe twenty cars and the beach itself is a quiet ribbon of sand facing Lewis Bay and the channel into Hyannis Harbor. The constant parade of fishing boats, lobster vessels, the Hy-Line Hyannis-to-Nantucket ferry, and the Steamship Authority Vineyard ferries makes for excellent boat-watching from a beach towel. The water is calm, the surf nonexistent, and the swimming is fine if unremarkable. There are no facilities, no lifeguard, and no concessions — bring everything. Mornings are best: low traffic, soft golden light off the harbor, and the chance you'll have the beach to yourself. Pair with breakfast at Java's Yarmouth Port or the Hearth 'n Kettle in West Yarmouth.
