Yarmouth, Massachusetts · Lewis Bay
Yarmouth's bay-side neighborhood secret
A quiet neighborhood beach on Lewis Bay with calm water and minimal crowds. A wooden bridge and marina views add charm. Under the radar even by Yarmouth standards.
Colonial Acres is a Lewis Bay neighborhood beach off the radar of even most Cape regulars. A short wooden footbridge over a tidal channel leads you onto a tiny, protected beach with mirror-flat water, views across the bay to the Hyannis marina lights, and a marsh-bordered tidal pond that kids spend hours exploring. The swimming is gentle and shallow — fine for younger children — and the sailing-school dinghies often putter through the bay on summer afternoons. There are no facilities beyond a porta-john; bring water, snacks, and sun protection. The lot fits maybe a dozen cars and the sticker booth turns away the rest. Combine with breakfast at the Egg & I a few miles inland in West Yarmouth, or sunset cocktails on the lawn at the Tugboats restaurant on Hyannis Harbor across the bay.
