The locals' Hardings Beach
Protected by the outer barrier beach, so the water is warmer and calmer than the open ocean. A Chatham locals' favorite with a more relaxed vibe than the town beaches.
Ridgevale is the locals' alternative to Hardings — same warm, sheltered sound water, fraction of the lot capacity, more of a neighborhood feel. The Mill Creek inlet runs through the western end of the beach, creating a calm tidal channel where kids float, kayaks launch, and the occasional flounder fisherman casts at dawn. The lot is split between sticker and daily-fee spots; arrive by 10 a.m. on summer weekends to find space. There's a small bathhouse with restrooms and outdoor showers but no concessions — pack a cooler. The walking along the shore at low tide is excellent: head east toward Cockle Cove or west into the creek for an hour without seeing another soul. Pair with a stop at Larry's PX in West Chatham for breakfast, or the Marion's Pie Company a mile up the road for a homemade lobster pot pie to bring home.
