Barnstable › Cotuit
Mid Cape · Mid Cape (Hyannis Side) · Village
Cotuit is the quiet end of Barnstable — a residential village on Nantucket Sound that has resisted the commercial creep of nearby Mashpee Commons and Hyannis. The Cotuit oyster is locally famous (you can buy them from the Cotuit Oyster Company shack), and the Cotuit Center for the Arts punches above its weight for a village this size. The pace is slow, the streets are residential, and most of the beaches are sticker-only.
Loop Beach is the village’s anchor — a small, family-popular Sound beach with full facilities, named for the one-way loop road that leads to it. Ropes Beach is the quiet alternative, beloved by walkers and residents who want a slice of shoreline without the small crowd at Loop. There’s no nightlife and limited dining; Cotuit is a place to slow down, not a place to bar-hop.
