Scusset Beach Road

Sandwich, Massachusetts · Cape Cod Bay

Quieter back-entrance to Scusset State Reservation

A state reservation beach at the mouth of the Cape Cod Canal. Great for fishing off the jetty, and the only Cape beach with proper oceanfront camping. The canal bike path starts right here.

Scusset Beach Road is the secondary access point to the Scusset Beach State Reservation — a smaller, quieter parking and beach entrance west of the main lot, closer to the canal itself. The character is identical to the main beach (state reservation, Cape Cod Bay, canal mouth) but with a fraction of the foot traffic. The canal bike path runs adjacent, and anglers favor this entrance for quick access to lesser-known fishing spots along the canal rip-rap. Facilities are minimal at this entrance — basic restrooms, no concession — but the full Scusset operation (campground, snack bar, bathhouse) is a five-minute walk east. For visitors who want the state-reservation experience without the parking-lot scrum, this is the move.
