How these picks are computed

Each beach starts from a neutral score and moves on measured inputs: hourly wind forecast (Open-Meteo) checked against the direction each beach faces, water temperature from NOAA/NDBC buoys, today's tide predictions from NOAA CO-OPS, and EPA BEACON water-quality advisories. Beaches under a closure are excluded from picks outright. When an input is unavailable, that component is skipped — nothing is estimated or filled in.
